Shared RDM in Austria - Connecting Infrastructure, People, and Skills

The Austrian ERA Symposium 2025, “Towards Europe’s Fifth Freedom”, took place as a full-day, in-person event in Vienna on 17 November 2025. The symposium brought together key stakeholders to reflect on current developments and future directions of the European Research Area (ERA). A highlight of the event was the keynote contribution by Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation, Ekaterina Zaharieva, who shared first-hand insights into the evolving EU research and innovation landscape. Central discussions focused on the path towards the envisaged ERA Act, addressing its potential to introduce legally binding measures to further strengthen the ERA. The programme was complemented by interactive workshops that explored priorities for Austria’s next ERA Action Plan 2026–2028, fostering exchange and collaboration among participants.
